Floridians in Action
The members of the community interest group “Floridians in Action” wish to invite all homeowners and renters mow being affected by the unjustified increases of property insurance rates in Florida to join us in our petition drive in order to resolve the growing insurance crisis.
Our intent is to try and bring relief to Florida homeowners who are suffering due to the high cost of property insurance rates in Florida and to reform the unfair practices of the insurance industry, which has now caused a property insurance crisis. Floridians are now having to sell their homes and businesses because of the inability to pay the skyrocketing rates.
We have posted this blog in order to give the people of the State of Florida a forum where they may voice their opinions and tell their stories on how they have been affected by this insurance crisis. Please join us.

Here we go againg getting scam in South Florida. State Farm is not an insurance company, it is a highway robber without a gun.
EVERYBODY that has their home paid for should cancel their policy.
This insurance scam only can happen here in Miami-Dade where everything happens.. We should all stop paying insurance even if the mortgage company makes us do it...and something else we should all do iS call upon our leaders, politics, where are they?? They only come forward when they need our vote. EH
At least give us the option of buying fire and liability and assume our own Hurricane Loss. As it is,my mother cannot have a choice and she is definitely going to be forced out of retirement with 70 years. UNBELIEVABLE!!!
IS THIS AMERICA???? WHERE THE HELL AM I LIVING???????????????
Canceling insurance policies is not the answer. That will just give insurance companies another reason to raise it to those who have to have it. Not paying is also not an alternative as banks will insure you if you don't have it and it will usually cost you more in the end. Pushing for reform is the answer. Call your local leaders and representatives and bug them. Prehaps we should send insurance companies millions of emails and letters teller them we are unhappy with the current state of affairs and unless they so something immediately we will continue to send them letters and emails bogging them down. We should write to the company executive that probably have the most time on their hands.
This is a scam
Speaker Marco Rubio will never see these pettitions they are being mailed to a Mailbox etc. in Town and Country Mall not his office.
This is a way for Dynamic to get personal data to create a mailling list.
This is why we have a bad rap of public adjusters
HERE WE GO AGAIN......AS OF JANUARY WE ARE GETTING ANOTHER INCREASE IN RATES.....WHEN WILL THIS STOP???????
WHERE ARE OUR STATE REPRESENTATIVES THAT "WE" THE VOTERS HAVE ELECTED ???
DO NOT SEND ME ANY INFORMATION OR SELL ME ANYTHING.....LOWER OUR RATES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Definitely, reform is the answer. That is "responsible" reform, but how do we really make sure our elected officials are doing what they are supposed to do? Nobody has the time or the resources to keep track of their real interests. where can we find the contributions to their campaigns? We need more groups like this, so far this is the only one.
Where is all the money we paid for so many years with no hurricanes?
Also, where are our leaders that they allow insurance company's to pick and choose. If they don't want to write auto and home policies in the state of florida then they should get out. It should be a requirement that they do both. Just like every other business, you have to take the good with the bad.
I have read your petition and the comments. The political atmosphere of Miami is one where petitions, letters, phone calls, etc. will simply not work. The increase in Property Taxes, Homeowners Insurance, and automobile insurance is simply an OUTRAGEOUS ripoff of all the citizens of our city and state. You just have to go around the city to see the absolutely ridiculous projects where money is spent(and stolen) as it is obvious the projects absolutely do not cost the approved funds (i.e. $170000 for a "landscaped" circle at the Roads, I believe there must be at least 12 with the excuse of slowing down traffic). I can only imagine how useful and effective these monies could have been if used in simply enforcing the STOP laws by having law enforcement officials (who will actually enforce it) in random days. These circles are obviously an easy money-shuffle for politicians as I see them popping out in the adjacent areas where the neigbourhood is in need of so many other things rather than circles in already narrow streets.
These actions will only stop when all citizens take their civil duty into action and actually take the time to organize and show up in numbers (and I really mean ALL CITIZENS) at the doors of city hall. Unfortunately we live in a city where Media & Politics go hand on hand and only what is convenient for their interests is actually publicly exposed.
Policy Holders should have been complaining a long ago when these rates were starting to go sky high! Don't forget, in my opinion Jeb Bush and his party are accountable for a lot of this! The PSC(public service commission memebers)were appointed by Jeb Bush and Him alone. They are responsible for Reviewing these Rates Hike and giving them the Green Light to go higher! Same thing for the Highest Phone rate hike in Florida history for Phone Rate Hikes(bellsouth)! These large rate hikes in the phone industry and cable industry were supposed to encourage Competition and lower Rates; they have actually did the opposite! Again, Green light by the PSC to raise rates in these areas! ! The Insurance Industry Lobbies pumped Millions into Jeb's Campaign same for C.Crist. Those who pulled the lever for Jeb pulled the lever for High Insurance rate hikes so pat yourselves on the back as you are part of the problem! You got what you voted for! Next time around, research the Candidate's background and who is financing them before you pull the Lever(or touch the screen in our case) in the Vote booth! I am not in the least surprised by what is transpiring today RateWise; no surprise from what I can see,,,BTW, why weren't these Hearings on the Insurance Crisis held before the Nov 7 Elections? Why Now?
If the Office of Insurance Regulation keeps allowing these new insurance companies to come in and only write the homes built in 2000 and after, the National companies will be adverse selected against and eventually will have to cancel everything. Make it illegal for a homeowner insurance company to set it's underwriting guidelines based on age so that they have to write old and new homes if they want to do business in our stste. Allowing these hedge funds and private equity firms to come in here and only serve a segment of the market is bad for the state and our residents and will only make matters worse when they want to take their profits and run....
Making homes insured for over $1,000,000 inelligible for Citizens is the DUMBEST move I have ever heard of and it reflects on the average IQ of our legislature. The data from the storms proved that the loss ratio on these homes was less than 50% less than that of the balance of the book of business, so in effect by removing these homes the loss ratio and rates in Citizens will be higher. Only in America does the legislature protect only those constituents with homes insured for less that $1,000,000, hey let the rich people pick up their own trash, hire their own police and put out their own fires too.
The insurance crisis is as a result of people voting for Republicans. They only care about business interests such as insurance companies, not the working people. Now we are all paying for it.
I hope that Charlie Crist proves me wrong.
My wife and I thought we were the only ones to have a 100% increase in insurance rates. We are unable to afford this (and other increases). How sad as we consider leaving our Kendall church ministry in Miami, Florida for Georgia by end of year. We'll continue to pray.
Our insurance is due December 26 for $7,126. Last year it was $2205. This is greater than 300% increase AND we are insuring ONLY $196K which is $100K less than it SHOULD be!
As much as everyone knocks Citizens, they came through after Wilma. Neighbors with State Farm, Allstate etc are still waiting. But what about our luck last year with no hurricanes. Why not a refund on the 300% increase we got and expect to get even more. Property taxes we expected, but as it is, there is no sense in leaving the house to the kids, they can't aford it. My tenent will see an increase she can't afford, so next year I'll be selling what I planned to retire on. No wonder single family homes in Miami-Dade have 10+ occupants. Something HAS to be done. I agree that we should have options, the only reason we carry homeowners is for fire and flooding but are forced to cover more. As to the house, we may not renew as there is no mortgage (thank God)
my insurance tripled...it is time we take the state back from all of these insurance companies. It was 12 years after Andrew that anything happened while they reaped the benefits.
We need to all come together
Let's all take a look at these two options:
1) Allodial property al la Nevada (by statute) and several other states (in their constitutions)...why pay property tax at all?
2) You pay higher rates to insure more expensive cars driven by rickier drivers...why on earth do you expect to NOT pay more to live in hurricane alley with appreciating (we hope) home values???
Get a life people - think with your head not your hearts...

Why are not more homes built to be "hurricane proof"? I have seen many designs that can accomplish this. As an American that does not live in your state,I hear many people ask this question. They rest of the countrry is lead to believe that we are picking up the costs for a few coastal states. If these are invalid questions, please respond.

We are geing robbed and our legislators are letting it happen. This will go on as long as they can get away with it.I was told that my damaged roof tiles, in the middle of a neighborhood of damaged tiles, was damaged by "something else"!!! Not the hurricane that damaged everyones roofs. Then they even said it was supposed to be loose!!!Then State Farm made us fix a roof that was 40% dameged. They broke the law to get away with not paying for a new roof.My neighbors got new roofs. Now they tell me to expect my premium to go up from $3000 to $6000.We are being ripped off.
My State Farm policy went from $1300 to $4800 for #136,000 coverage with 5% hurricane deductible! Insurance companies have gotten to smart for their own good. By using computer models they are selecting only what the deem as profitable business and leaving the rest to the tax payers through Citizens. The solution: a single payor for all. Expand a citizens-like state run pool for all insurance. We are all in it together. The single payer keeps & invests excess funds from low claim years to pay for claims in high claim years. Simple and much better than allowing insurance company execs to pay themselves big bonuses and dividends in years when the make money. Where is all the money they made in the years before and after Andrew? Why weren't they available for the claims of 2004 - 2005? A SINGLE PAYER system is the answer.
If you cant afford the cost of insurance then MOVE. Problem solved.
What the hell is happening to this state? Does anyone care about its citizens? Taking a family from $2000 to $10,000 in Homeowners Insurance by State Farm because my house is 28 years of age, is situated in a densely populated area, and is in South Florida should be declared ILLEGAL!
May the last Middle Class Floridian please shut off the lights!
I just looked at my Citezens' policy for next year and although my Hurricane insurance went up by only $1,000, my over all premium went up by $4,000!
What the f!!! is going on!
My brother tried calling our provided and all he was told is "insurance is going up."
I think everyone in Miami should just refuse to buy insurance and force our politicians and media to finally pay attention to us!
I know Spanish is the language of preference for a lot of us, but I thought we were still in the USA..NOT ANYMORE!!!
Perhaps our leaders want us all to bail so they can buy our land and sell it to RICH SOUTH AMERICANS!!!
Wow, Georgia is looking more and more attractive every day!
People should not have to and many cannot just afford to move! Tell that to the millions of retired citizens who have lived in Florida for years and helped build this state's economy!
No one here is asking for charity, just fairness.
However, you should not worry as much as the rest of us who can afford to pack up and leave...since most of us will and leave you and yourself to enjoy 50 years of Hurricanes which I hope will destroy your house and car and cause you to seek refuge in an over priced hotel for 6 months while you try to figure out where to build your next house. But be positive, perhaps by then you will be in Hell wher you belong and won't have to worry about moving...
i BELIEVED THERE IS A SECRET AGENDA BETWEEN THE INSURANCES COMPANY AND THE LOCAL GOV, TO FORCE THE RESIDENTS OUT OF THEY HOMES AND REPOS THE LAND TO SELL IT TO THE BIGGEST DEVELOPERS WE NEED TO SEND A STRONG MESSAGE TO THE POLITICS ON THE HILL WE ARE THE VOTERS AND THEY ARE FOR RE-ELECTION AND WE THE PEOPLE HAVE THE LAST WORD THANK YOU
ES UNA PENA QUE LOS POBRES ANCIANOS TIENEN SUS CASAS PAGADAS Y QUE TENGAN QUE VENDER POR EL ALTO COSTO DEL UNICO SEGURO EXCISTENTE Y YO LES HAGO ESTA PREGINTA A LOS LEGISLADORES A ESTO SE LE LLAMA MONOPOLIO?? O ES QUE UNA COMPANIA TIENE EL PODER DE DICTAR EL FUTURO DE LOS RECIDENTE DE ESTE ESTADO YO CREO QUE NO HALLAMOS PERDIDO EL DERECHO DE ELEGIR NUESTRO FUTURO!!! GRACIAS
My State Farm bill arrived yesterday. It included a 130% increase. I live i the redlands, NOT near the ocean!!!!! Texas is looking better and better all the time. If we all sell our properties only the rich will be able to buy them.Maybe this is their plan. Richer people can afford 130% increases and gradually this state will be full of richer people who bought our homes!
There has to be a reason that no one is helping us. Don't know what it is yet but I am sure it is a political reason! This state is going to turn into a sea of homes in disrepair fron the high deductables we are forced to carry. Will the governor be proud to be governing a state of ruined properties?
Our property taxes should be dropped drastically because we are in a state where our homes are not worth what they used to be DUE TO THIS INSURANCE CRISIS!!! Who would want to buy a home with insurance bills like this.We will never be able to sell out if this continues, our homes will be worthless!!
with companies like all of our favorite! "POE" who went under after Whilma around here the whole system is screwed! Why? Cause Florida is a third world country!
govt coruption on every level. state local from the lowest to the highest! POE took all out monies and reinsured them and still went under even after they didn't use more then 20 to 40% of their money to pay off homeowners etc. the rest of it was reinsurance money! So where did that money go? how did the well dry up?
OK Kids. can we all say HIGH PAY? Marble flooring? Big gigantic new offices etc? or that nice golden parachute for some ass klown who smokes a fat cuban each night and lites it off of your hard earned cash! Our local and state officals are also getting fat off our sweat giving themselves raise while we get nothing... Stand up on your hind feet and stop living in a third world country!
Why have our legislators let this go so far? Because richer people will move in, who can afford this. They don't care about us!Someone else will be paying the insurance and taxes on OUR houses in the future, because we will have sold them!
Regarding the person who wants to know WHY we don't MOVE...
Well,in our case, my husband has 2 children from his 1st marriage and we have 50/50 custody of his kids. (everyother day and everyother weekend to be precise). If we MOVE my husband will be forced to LEAVE HIS CHILDREN.
Perhaps you should help find a solution rather than trying to point fingers and throw out insults. We would dearly LOVE to "move", but in order for my husband to be a FATHER to his CHILDREN, we are obligated to live HERE, in Miami-Dade County.
Thanks for asking.
Also: to the person who says we should "JUST MOVE".
You are missing the whole point!!!
Even if you can afford these rates the point is that we are being RIPPED OFF!!Our government is letting it happen! There is a limit to how much I will let State Farm rip me off EVEN IF I HAVE THE MONEY!! If you don't feel like you are being ripped off there is something wrong with you!
One reason why we have such high insurance rates is that for many years the insurance comnpanies buy their reinsurance from their own re insurance companies, example geico buys from the Berkshire group who in turn owns geico (The warren buffet group owns berkshire who in turn owns geico. Allstate is owned by the allstate reinsurance company and so own. Second all companies who want to sell auto insurance in florida should be compelled to sell property insurance, otherwise, no deal. Auto insurance is the highest profit line for insurance companies. there are many other ways in which insurance companies can lower their rates, but they wont as long as our politicias keep getting politacl donations from the insurance lobbies.
Our coastal residence is located on the barrier island popularly known as Miami Beach. Our municipality is is Surfside, which is between 88th and 96th street, from ocean to bay. Five years ago we wer paying approx $2,600. for all three insurances -- homeowner's, flood and wind. Our total annual residential insurance coverage today is $10,000.00 for a 1600 sq ft home. That's a close to a 400% increase!
And I haven't started with the property tax!

I live in Pasco County, and it is just as bad here. Our property insurance has gone from 1300.00 to 4100.00 with Citizens. Having our own home plus a few rental properties, Citizens is killing us financially. We cannot raise our tenants rents to keep up with the insurance and tax rates, and we can't even sell the houses to get out of FL, nobody's buying.
Our politicians really screwed us!
Is Florida a 3rd. world class or not????? How wrong was Tancredo-OR!!!.
I am not in favor of D or R, I just want the job done, but done on the right way, and the CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER Mr.Alex Sink (D)should SPEAK LOUDER what is the BASIC of ECONOMY to the LEGISLATORS sooner, becouse they are completed losted. In reality they don't care, becouse they are receiving the BIG PAY CHECK that comes from USSSSSSSSS the TAXXXXXXXXXXXXX PAYERRRRRRRRRRRRS !!!!
I think that the only solution for the insurance crises is to make
citizen insurance the carrier off all windstorm insurance in the state . my windstorm portion in my policy is 2700.00 if you multiply
that by every house in state .
i would rather give to the state
than to vanguard fire and casulty.
at leasest a portion would go a catastrfic fund.and not top make
vanguard rich.
I have always thought that State farm raised their rates so dramatically because they could not because they had to. Now we learn that the new legislation will help us somewhat by selling re-insurance to these companies at reduced rates. State Farm says it will not help them much because they did not have a re-insurance problem They bought their re-insurance from their parent company. So why did they raise theie rates so much?? Becauce they could not because they had to!
Champagne wishes and Caviare dreams
for the insurance companys in florida. While we cant afford the dollar menu at wendys.
You feel powerless my insurance went from 1,200.00 to 3,900 with vanguard in 2 years. for 80,000.00
worth of coverage its not fair.
they know that the bank ownes your home and not you.So you have to pay what ever they say. Till you cant anymore.
The insurance rates are out of control someone needs to to do something to make a difference. I think it is all an insurnce scam.
If you DO NOT LOWER our Hurricane Insurance we the PEOPLE of South Florida are going to Boycott ALL AMERICAN COMPANIES !!!!!!!
FOR EXAMPLE:
1. ALL MALLS
2. ALL PUBLIX GROCERY STORES
3. ALL WINN DIXIE GROCERY STORES
4. WALGREENS PHARMACY
5. CVS PHARMACY
6. ALL PIZZA HUTS
7. ALL TACO BELLS
8. ALL BURGER KINGS
9. ALL MC DONALDS
10. ALL KENTUCKY FRIED CHICKEN
11. ALL MOVIE THEATRE
it's sooooo easy to point the finger at legislators, the country, the "system" and even the insurance companies... hell, somene is even pointing the finger at the public adjusters who took the time, money and energy to put this site together and even bad mouthing all public adjusters, while they're at it.
you know what? you can either be part of the problem, or part of the solution. I salute Dynamic Public Adjusters for taking the time to do this, collect signatures and take all the time necessary to let people know that there is someone out there, looking out for us. Not a politician... not a legislator.. just a consumer advocate, who is already used to fighting for consumers..
KUDOS to Dynamic Public Adjusters... and to everyone else who gets off their tush, stops complaining and actually does something about it.
My homeowners insurance agent's incompetence cost me $500 because they checked the wrong box. I set up my own web site at Florida Homeowners Insurance Crisis because it. Who cares if it is insurance adjusters or policy holders who set up the site, as long as attention is drawn to the problem.
Where, oh where, is this all going to end? I am retired, on a fixed income, and trying to find private insurance. Where are all the premiums gone that I paid for the 30 years I have lived here? Now my premium has tripled, and I feel like I am in a maze, wandering around from insurer to insurer... .
I just saw a site for Florida Homeowners Insurance called the Home Insurance Buyers Guide. I think that somebody may actually have done something good here. It tells you the insurance companies that are writing new business in your county, and link you to agents that write for those companies. I need to get some competitive quotes or my days living here are numbered. Check out this site - www.homeinsurancebuyers.org
